Outlook Root Folder Path Fix

Outlook has a bug where it may connects just fine, and display certain IMAP folders on the server like "Sent" and "Drafts", but doesn't show any of the email in the INBOX, making it appear like no email is coming in. To fix this issue, manually set your Root folder path:

Outlook 2013 or 2016

  1. Start up Outlook.
  2. Click on the File menu and select Account Settings, and then Account Settings.
  3. It should display a list of (one or more) IMAP accounts. Click once on the account you are trying to fix and then click the Change button
  4. When the POP and IMAP Account Settings window appears, click on the More Settings... button at the bottom right.
  5. In the Internet E-mail Settings window, click on the Advanced tab.
  6. In the Folders section, find the Root folder path field and enter INBOX in all CAPS.
  7. Click OK, then Next, and then Finish

Outlook 2019

  1. Start up Outlook.
  2. Click on the File menu and select Account Settings, and then Account Settings.
  3. It should display a list of (one or more) IMAP accounts. Click once on the account you are trying to fix and then click the Change button
  4. In the Folder Settings section, find the Root folder path field and enter INBOX in all CAPS.
  5. Click Next, and then Done
